Welcome to Between the Ledger Lines!

“Stay at home in your mind. Don’t recite other people’s opinions. I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

This blog is meant to inspire communication and critical thinking in the modern flute community. I am interested in becoming a versatile, multi-faceted flutist/teacher/scholar/musicologist/ theorist/critic/writer in order to adapt to the changing times.

Things you can look forward to in this blog are “snapshots” of composers and compositions that I am currently studying, interviews with living composers with whom I am collaborating, reviews of CDs and specific publishers’ printed editions of works, and excerpts from my research projects, past and present.  Many of my entries will contribute to a greater narrative arc of preparation for a recital or research project. I hope to provide my readers with the opportunity to follow these endeavors while contributing to and interfacing with the ever-expanding flute community.
